Full Gantry or Semi-Gantry: How Much Structure Do You Already Have?

Both put the crane load into the floor instead of the building. The question is whether the crane stands on two legs — or borrows one side from a structure you already own.

Full Gantry

A complete portal frame — two legs on floor rails, in single or double girder form. The building carries nothing.

Choose it when

The work is outdoors — a yard, a laydown area, a storage strip
The building structure cannot take runway loads, and reinforcing it costs more than rails
Single girder for lighter duties, double girder where capacity and span demand it

Semi-Gantry

One leg on a floor rail, the other end running on an existing runway or wall — single or double girder.

Choose it when

One side of the bay can carry rail — the other cannot
You are extending coverage alongside an existing overhead crane
Floor space on one side must stay clear of legs and rails

The rail and its foundation are part of the specification — which is one more reason the free site visit pays for itself before anything is ordered.
